Every great car has a great story to tell, and Jeep is no exception. Since its origin, during the Second World War, it has been characterized by its great resistance and versatility.
Its story begins in 1940, a year before the United States entered the conflict. At this time, the North American country's military was looking for a vehicle that the troops could use. Three prototypes were delivered, but the Willys Quad was chosen. Its triumph was due to its Go-Devil engine developed by Barney Roos which, with 60 horsepower, surpassed the Bantam 83 and Ford 85, its competing prototypes. In each generations of Jeep Wrangler they have different lights, like 5x7 led headlights for Jeep wrangler yj and 9 inch Jeep JL headlights for the 2018 JL.
The Quad model was refined for use in warfare and in 1941 these improvements led to two new models: the MA and the MB, with the MB being a heavier version of the MA.
By 1945, its last year of production, more than 300,000 units had been manufactured, which were distributed among the various American sections and those of the Allied, British and Russian troops. The jeep was everywhere and the soldiers loved it: it went anywhere, machine guns could be set up, and it had a variety of uses: from transporting supplies to an ambulance for war zones; the Jeep 4x4 did it all.
THE KING OF 4X4 CARS: FROM SEAT TO GARAGE
After MB's success in the military and after the war, Willys-Overland, the vehicle's manufacturer, saw an opportunity to market it to the general public and introduced the CJ-2A in 1945.
This 4x4 Jeep had different features from the military version: wider headlights, taller windshield, tailgate and side-mounted spare tire.
The Universal, as it was called, was touted as the multifunctional farm horse, as Willys-Overland discovered that over 4 million farmers did not own horses or tractors.
The CJ-2A has been a huge success with many accessories for use in industry and agriculture. Even Popular Science magazine ran a competition where it rewarded the best ideas for using it.
